In Germany, the creation of the Registry of Damages caused to Ukraine by Russia's aggression is being welcomed.
Christine Hoffmann, the spokesperson for the Federal Government, made this statement during a briefing on Wednesday, according to Ukrinform correspondent.
"We welcome the creation of such a Registry. The damage inflicted on Ukraine by Russian aggression needs to be documented. This will be an important basis for the further reconstruction of Ukraine or for discussions on compensation," said Hoffmann.
She added that Germany and other countries, together with Ukraine, are developing mechanisms for compensating the damage caused by aggression. It is anticipated that frozen assets of Russian individuals involved in or supporting the aggression will be directed towards these purposes.
According to the German Ministry of Economy, as of April 12, assets of Russian origin totaling €5.23 billion have been frozen in Germany.
As reported earlier, at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik, over 40 countries and the EU signed an agreement to create the Registry of Damages caused to Ukraine by Russian aggression.
Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, recently emphasized that the creation of the Registry was one of the most important tasks of the summit.
