Grealish breaks chance creation record in Champions League - Manchester City FC

kajasada.blogspot.com

Jack Grealish has created more chances during City's run to this year's final than any English player in a previous Champions League campaign.

The City winger has found his team-mates in a dangerous position on 35 occasions during the 12 games of our European journey so far.

That sees him surpass Frank Lampard’s total of 34 in 2007/08 and David Beckham’s 32 in 2005/06.

Our No.10 broke the record by creating three opportunities for his team-mates during Wednesday night’s 4-0 semi-final second leg rout of Real Madrid at the Etihad.

However, none of those were converted with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois denying Erling Haaland from the best of them.

Instead, the goals came from Bernardo Silva (2), Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez to create one of the Etihad’s most memorable nights.

SHOP THE FINALISTS RANGE

Eight of the chances made by Grealish in European football this season have set up Haaland, who has been the main beneficiary of his creativity.

Ilkay Gundogan has received seven passes from Grealish leading to a chance, while Rodrigo (4), Julian Alvarez and Kevin De Bruyne (3) have also benefitted.

Grealish is also leading this season’s stats in the Champions League for total carries and the distance he has taken the ball.

His 260 dribbles tally to a total distance of 3208 metres, proving he is more than willing to take his man on and drive into space.

As we explored in March, Grealish’s impact on Pep Guardiola’s side should not be underestimated.

He will now have chance to further extend his record during the 10 June final against Inter.
