Choice & Radisson Americas Loyalty Programs Merging - One Mile at a Time

kajasada.blogspot.com

In 2022, Choice Hotels acquired Radisson Hotel Group Americas. The deal was worth around $675 million, and with this, Choice Hotels acquired nine new brands, 624 hotels, and over 67,000 rooms. We’ve seen the introduction of some reciprocal loyalty program perks, with the goal of having the programs eventually merge. We now know when that’s going to happen.

In this post:

Radisson Rewards Americas program ending July 2023

The Radisson Rewards Americas loyalty program is expected to be integrated into the Choice Privileges loyalty program as of July 18, 2023:

  • As of July 18, 2023, you’ll no longer be able to earn, redeem, or transfer Radisson Rewards Americas points
  • Points will automatically be transfered from Radisson Rewards Americas to Choice Privileges at a 2:1 ratio (so every two Radisson Rewards points gets you one Choice Privileges point), assuming you have your accounts linked
  • If you have higher status with Radisson Rewards Americas, that status will automatically be matched with Choice Privileges
  • You can continue earning and redeeming points as usual through July 18, 2023
  • Any reservations or award nights booked for stays after July 18, 2023, will be honored, and there’s nothing you need to do

Since early 2023, it has been possible to transfer points between accounts of the two programs, which is also the easiest way to link your accounts.

Choice Privileges will be the new combined loyalty program

Is there anything you should do before programs merge?

Assuming you’re a member of both Choice Privileges and Radisson Rewards Americas (with matching info on both accounts), there’s nothing you need to do. You could transfer your points from Radisson to Choice, just so that it happens instantly, rather than taking up to a few weeks during the transition.

The only other real thing to consider is whether you want to transfer points from Radisson Rewards Americas to the “global” Radisson Rewards program prior to July 18, since that will no longer be possible as of that date. You could also still transfer points from the global Radisson Rewards program, to Radisson Rewards Americas, to Choice Privileges.

Even before Choice acquired Radisson Americas, Radisson had already split its loyalty program into two, so if you were a Radisson Rewards Americas member, you could only earn or redeem outside of the Americas through the other Radisson Rewards program. Transfers have remained possible even after the Choice acquisition, but that will be ending in the coming weeks.

On balance, I’d consider it a positive that Choice Privileges is the surviving loyalty program, since Choice Privileges is quite robust, with good elite perks, and decent points earning and redemption rates.

Transfer points between the two Radisson programs now

Bottom line

Radisson Rewards Americas is expected to be integrated into Choice Privileges as of July 18, 2023. As of that date, it will no longer be possible to earn or redeem points with Radisson Rewards Americas, or to transfer points to the global Radisson Rewards program.

There’s nothing you need to do before the transition, though it also can’t hurt to proactively transfer points from Radisson Rewards Americas to Choice Privileges, just so nothing gets mixed up during the transition.

What do you make of Radisson Rewards Americas being integrated into Choice Privileges?
