Mass Effect 2 Thane's Loyalty Mission Walkthrough | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

kajasada.blogspot.com

Mass Effect's Thane Krios spent the majority of his life serving the Hanar as an assassin. He understood that as a weapon in the hand of another, he bore no responsibility for his crimes. But, when vengeful targets from his past murdered Thane's wife, he went on a mindless killing spree to exact his revenge. He left his young, grieving son, Kolyat, in the care of his aunts and uncles and never returned.

Already dying from Keprel's Syndrome, Thane had no qualms about joining Shepard on their suicide mission to take out the Collectors. As the mission drew closer, however, the drell assassin knew the only way his soul could rest was by making peace with his past and his son. Kolyat recently discovered the truth about his father's work as an assassin, and like father like son, he believes the only way to get Thane's attention is to walk the same path. It's up to Thane and Commander Shepard to stop Kolyat before he makes a mistake powerful enough to ruin the rest of his life. Fostering peace between the two can earn Shepard Thane's loyalty, potentially keeping him alive well beyond the suicide mission. This is one of the two squadmate missions with no combat, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

Mission: Find Out Who Hired Kolyat

Kelly Chambers informs Shepard that Thane wants to talk. Head down and talk to Thane, who reveals more about his past and the impact of his wife's death on their young son, Kolyat. While contemplating his inevitable death, Thane realized he needed to make amends with Kolyat and stop him from potentially ruining his life by following blindly in his father's footsteps. He's received word that Kolyat has undertaken an assassination contract on the Citadel and he needs Shepard's help to stop him. There is an opportunity for Shepard to earn +2 Paragon points during this conversation by asking Thane why he didn't take Kolyat with him when he left, or +2 Renegade for telling him he abandoned his son or hurrying him along with the details.

After agreeing to help him, head to C-Sec on the Citadel and speak with Captain Bailey. Bailey will check his records and discover that a duct rat and petty criminal named Mouse was seen talking to a Drell. Mouse has been known to sell a Shepard VI, and Bailey encourages them to pick one up when speaking to Mouse. Head to Level 28 and find Mouse near Rodam Expeditions. Mouse will see Thane and immediately recognize him, which prompts Thane to admit he used Mouse years earlier to help him gather intel on his assassination targets.

If picking up the Shepard VI, talk to Mouse before intimidating him for information. Mouse panics when they begin asking him who hired Kolyat, which prompts a Renegade interrupt. Using the interrupt gives Shepard +5 points. Not using the interrupt, +5 Paragon points can be earned by offering to protect him, or +5 Renegade for telling him, "I'm losing patience." Mouse confesses it was a human crime boss named Elias Kelham that hired Kolyat.

Mission: Questioning Kelham

Return to Bailey and let him know what Mouse had to say. Bailey will admit this puts him in an awkward position, as he has a personal arrangement with Kelham, who bribes Bailey to look the other way. Nevertheless, he will have Kelham arrested and detained as long as he can hold him so Shepard and Thane can question him. Once he's been detained, head into the interrogation room to play good cop, bad cop with the crime boss.

Questioning Kelham can go several different ways, depending on how Shepard responds. A Shepard with a high Renegade score can instantly intimidate Kelham into confessing by saying, "I'm a Spectre. Start talking." Without a high Renegade score, there will be three Renegade interrupts that present themselves, and taking them consecutively is a use of force that eventually shows Kelham that Shepard is serious and will not hesitate to take him out if he doesn't confess. Ignoring the first two interrupts and taking the third, with Thane playing good cop, can pry the confession from him before his lawyer arrives.

If the lawyer arrives before gaining the confession, a council-reinstated Spectre Shepard can still play the Spectre card to get the confession, or they can sell out Mouse (gaining Renegade points) to get Kelham to tell them who the target is. Shepard may also have to pull out their gun and start waving it around to get the confession, but if all the right choices are made, that usually isn't necessary. Eventually, Kelham will tell them that the target is a Turian politician with an anti-human platform named Joran Talid. After gaining the target's name, return to Bailey, who arranges transportation for Commander Shepard to Talid's location.

Mission: Tracking Talid

While following Talid on his campaign trail, Shepard must shadow the trail and update Thane from the catwalks above. Not updating Thane on Talid's position promptly will result in not reaching Kolyat in time to stop him from assassinating the Turian. The mission completes, but Thane's loyalty is not earned, so be sure to update Thane regularly on where Talid is and what he's up to. Talid can be followed easily, just keep an eye out for his red-suited Krogan bodyguards.

Start out by going right to grab the data pad with the heavy pistol upgrade, then pass through the doors to get onto the catwalk and begin shadowing Talid and updating Thane until he enters the night club and meets with a group of Krogans. Pass into the upper level of the club to encounter a worker named Jim Reynolds in the back room.

A Renegade interrupt prompt allows Shepard to knock him out cold, but ignoring it will offer a +5 Paragon response that they are a health inspector or +5 Renegade to tell him there's a bomb. Shepard can also earn +5 Paragon for telling him the truth. Proceed through the back door and into the alleyway to trigger the cut scene of Kolyat knocking out the bodyguard and pursuing Talid into his apartment.

Mission: Sins of the Father

Inside the apartment, Shepard can grab +15 Paragon points for using the Paragon interrupt to distract Kolyat and disarm him. If the interrupt is missed, instead Shepard gains +5 Paragon and +5 Renegade for shooting Kolyat in the arm. Shepard may also kill Talid for +15 Renegade points, earning an additional +2 for saying, "he was a bad guy," or +2 Paragon for noting, "now your son can't kill him." Thane and Kolyat share a bittersweet reunion, prompting Shepard to either tell him his father is dying for +2 Paragon, or saying, "he did this for you," before C-Sec takes Kolyat into custody and the pair return to speak with Bailey.

Shepard can encourage Bailey to go easy on the kid, pointing out that either, "those guys were criminals" for +5 Paragon or gaining +5 Renegade for asking "who cares about them?" Bailey sends Shepard an update email about his choice to draw Kolyat under his wing. With Kolyat on a better path, Thane's soul is at peace and he can enter into the suicide mission without fear for the future of his child.
