The Japanese SUV reveals its secrets through the macro lens of Ole Bielfeldt
5 hours ago
We have seen plenty of “behind the scenes” videos where automakers take us through the different stages of design and development in concepts and production vehicles, but Mazda took it to another level thanks to its collaboration with the macro photographer Ole Bielfeldt.
The 22-year-old German photographer is known for his “Macrofying” series which is focused on extreme close-up photos and videos of all different kinds of objects. Mazda hired him to highlight the development work behind the CX-60 SUV, starting from a clean sheet on the drawing board all the way to the finished product.

In the video we get to see the pencil strokes of the designer, pieces of clay coming off during the sculpting of the full-size model, small chunks of metal flying away from the bodywork during the finishing, a closer look at fibers from the interior leather stitching, and the beautiful flaky texture of Mazda’s signature red shade while it is being applied on the SUV.
The seemingly alien footage was made possible thanks to the photographer’s creativity as he combines the microscope and his camera for a truly eye-catching result. Mazda claims that Bielfeldt’s art is similar to the Takumi philosophy of the skilled master artisans behind its models.
Thankfully, the automaker included an extra “behind the scenes” video where we can see the shooting process of the microscopic footage. If you want to see similar close-ups of food and other materials, you can check out Bielfeldt’s “Macrofying” series on his dedicated Instagram page.
