The Erie Board of Trustees on July 14 agreed to wait to vote on whether the town should create an airport advisory committee.
In May, the board expressed interest in forming the committee and agreed to continue the discussion.
In June, the board discussed the purpose of the group and whether it should be a task force, an ad hoc committee or an ongoing advisory board. A majority of the board expressed support for an ongoing advisory board which would focus on the economic development at the airport.
According to the staff report, the advisory board could advise the trustees on matters relating to the economic development, financial vitality and economic impact of the airport, review and propose amendments to the airport’s master plan, annual and long-range capital plans, survey the community to understand local perspectives regarding the airport, promote airport awareness, and prepare and present a biannual report.
Some trustees voiced they believed the group should focus on economic development, while others voiced it should also address citizen concerns. Trustee Bill Gippe said he was concerned the group’s purpose was getting muddled.
“I’m concerned about this ordinance after it went through a pass of all of us and things that were said that don’t necessarily seemed aligned,” Gippe said.
A date to continue the discussion was not announced during the meeting.
