POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Legislature will vote to establish the Dutchess County-Poughkeepsie Land Bank when it meets this evening.
The resolution notes there is an overriding public need to confront the problems caused by vacant, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties through the creation of new tools to be available to communities throughout the state enabling them to turn vacant spaces into vibrant places.
The primary focus of land bank operations is the acquisition of real property that is tax delinquent, tax foreclosed, vacant, abandoned, and the use of tools authorized by the state to eliminate the hams and liabilities caused by such properties.
Recently, Ulster County officials voted to expand the Kingston Land Bank to encompass the county. Sullivan County also has a county-wide land bank. The City of Newburgh Land Bank was the first such mechanism formed in the region.
