ITA Airways has signed a frequent flyer agreement with fellow SkyTeam member Korean Air. The move incorporates Korean Air into the Italian flag carrier’s loyalty program, named Volare.

Thanks to the agreement, members can now accumulate and redeem Volare points when traveling on flights operated by Korean Air. Passengers will simply need to enter their Volare membership number at the booking stage or at check-in in order to benefit.

Korean Air is the first partner airline for Volare. The carrier operates over 100 flights per day from its hub at Seoul's Incheon International Airport (ICN), offering passengers impressive domestic, regional, and intercontinental connectivity.

ITA Airways’ CCO and CEO of Volare, Emiliana Limosani, celebrated the agreement with Korean Air, saying,

"We are delighted to announce our partnership with Korean Air. For us, this agreement represents a further step in our growth strategy within SkyTeam. Since ITA Airways officially joined SkyTeam, we have been working continuously with all partner carriers to ensure that frequent flyers enjoy the benefits and advantages of the Alliance. All services in our Volare program clubs will soon be extended to airlines in this network, giving our members access to more than 1,000 destinations and services worldwide. Likewise, all SkyTeam members will also have access to points accrual.”

Additionally, SkyTeam Elite Plus members will be able to enjoy SkyPriority services on Korean Air flights, ranging from priority check-in and boarding to extra baggage.

Korean Air – increasing connectivity worldwide

Korean Air’s 132-strong fleet is made up of a wide variety of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, including the Airbus A380, Boeing 737 MAX 8, and uniquely, the Boeing 747-8. Its future long-haul fleet expansion will come in the form of Boeing 787s, of which it has a further 30 on order.

Aside from ITA Airways, Korean Air is also a partner airline of Emirates' Skywards program, allowing members to earn and redeem miles on Korean Air flights.

Greater collaboration on the horizon for ITA Airways

Since it began operations in October last year in the wake of Alitalia’s demise, ITA Airways has grown to operate a fleet of 66 aircraft on routes across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. As it continues its expansion, the airline is expecting to receive a further 39 aircraft next year.

ITA Airways was prevented from taking over Alitalia’s former MilleMiglia frequent flyer program and so developed its own. The carrier has revealed that over the coming months, it will welcome more airline partners to its Volare program. This will offer members greater choice and more options for personalization. Likely candidates include other SkyTeam member airlines, such as Delta Air Lines, Air Europa, or China Eastern Airlines.
