November 30, 2020 – Ordnance Survey Ltd., Great Britain’s national mapping agency, has recently announced that it has awarded London-based games studio Preloaded Ltd its contract for the creation of a series of geolocated quests, challenges and special events, that use augmented reality (AR) to enhance engagement with the outside.
The contract notice was first published at the start of this year, as part of Ordnance Survey’s ‘GetOutside‘ campaign, which the organization stated is “for everyone, just as the outdoors is for everyone”. The AR game that will be produced by Preloaded is intended to help people discover the best that being outdoors in Britain has to offer, as well as the benefits that outdoor activity can bring.
The total contract award value was for GBP £300,000. The original terms of the contract published in January stated that it would be for a duration of three years. Preloaded was the successful bidder after a total of nine tenders were received by Ordnance Survey.
Preloaded has expertise in creating AR, VR and location-based experiences and has worked with clients such as McDonalds, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, automotive supplier Valeo, and the BBC, for which it designed the ‘BBC Earth: Life in VR’ virtual reality experience.
