The country now has the conditions to achieve this, through the new government’s attempt at dialogue and political management, the former director of the National Corporation for Indigenous Development, Domingo Namuncura, told El Mostrador newspaper.
The indigenous authority, of Mapuche origin, alluded to the positive policy of the recently installed executive of President Gabriel Boric towards La Araucania, a region of conflicts between representatives of that ethnic group and other communities.
For Namuncura, a central element in this regard is the creation of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, due to the great dispersion and distancing to address the issue through other portfolios and public services of the State.
In that sense, Namuncura considered the work of the Convention dedicated to the Magna Carta as a fundamental advance, but he assured that it is also necessary to establish a commitment of the State, not only of the Government.
The realization of this purpose in a framework of understanding between the radicalized groups and those willing to dialogue “requires the construction of certainties that do not exist today with respect to the territorial demands”, he considered.
