UNION — The Vose Library’s Vose or Virtual Wednesday Series hosts Gary Chapin and Carisa Corrow to discuss their co-creation of the book: “126 Falsehoods We Believe About Education.”

The event will be Zoom only on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, a 7 p.m. Closed captioning will be available.

Gary Chapin.

Gary Chapin has been working in education since 2000, first as a teacher — ninth grade social studies in central Maine — then as a curriculum director, a Dept. of Ed. researcher, and most recently, for nearly ten years, a consultant, advocate and supporter of equity based practices, such as competency-based learning, performance assessment, adaptive leadership, and collaborative cultures.

He is deeply fascinated by questions like: What should kids learn? How do we decide what kids should learn? How do we learn what they learned? How can learning what they learned help them learn more? Also: systems.

Carissa Chapin.

Carisa Corrow spent fourteen years as a public-school teacher in New Hampshire before becoming a consultant with the Center for Collaborative Education, working with educators to examine their learning and assessment systems.

In 2020, she started Educating for Good, with a mission to help schools create systems that work for learners and the community with the ultimate vision for a just and equitable world. Carisa is actively involved in Concord Showing Up for Racial Justice, volunteers at the soup kitchen and tutors. She lives with her husband, who is also an educator, and their three children on stolen Abenaki land in Penacook, N.H.
