Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) called Herschel Walker a "bad candidate" and former President Donald Trump's "creation" after he lost the Georgia runoff to Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) last week.
Christie lamented Walker's underperformance when compared with all other Republicans in statewide races in the Peach State while speaking on a panel on ABC's This Week on Sunday.

“Bad candidates lose. Good candidates have a chance to win. And Herschel Walker was not a good candidate. You know he wasn’t a good candidate because of a whole variety of issues that came out during the campaign,” Christie said.
Christie discussed that while Gov. Brian Kemp's (R-GA) endorsement after the general election was good for Walker, the Trump-backed candidate needed to win on the first ballot because of how much he was underperforming compared to every other Republican on the statewide ballot. The former governor argued that without Kemp at the top of the ticket, voters would not be motivated to vote for Walker.
When assessing Walker's loss, Christie also talked about how Trump has been a drag on the GOP, invoking Trump's 2016 promise of nonstop winning.
"We all remember in 2016 he said if he got elected, there was going to be so much winning and winning and winning and winning, they’d get sick of winning. None of us knew at the time he was actually talking about the Democrats were going to do all that winning, not the Republicans," Christie said. "And that’s what he’s wrought. And Herschel Walker is his creation. And so he’s got to own the fact that Herschel Walker so vastly underperformed."

He continued, "Every other Republican running statewide won except for Herschel Walker. You know what that tells you? Bad candidate."
Christie, who supported Trump during his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, has been vocally opposed to the former president recently. Last month, he ripped Trump for having an "awful lack of judgment" for having dinner with rapper Kanye West and white nationalist Nick Fuentes at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
