For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God, salvation. To activate the power of God it requires faith and obedience to Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit. This requires submission, for He is the author of eternal salvation, to all who obey Him called by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 5:8-10)
The question; why is the message of the cross one of foolishness? In other words, it doesn’t make sense to those who are lost. In the message of the cross, Christ became sin who knew no sin, for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (1 Corinthians 5:21)
He became as the bronze serpent in the times of Moses, when Moses lifted it up in the wilderness that whoever was bitten by the fiery serpent and looked up at the bronze serpent would live. John 3:14; Numbers 21:9
This is what we as a nation needs to do, look up at the cross of Jesus Christ that we shall live. Jesus said that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. At Calvary Jesus Christ wiped out the hand written requirements that were against us which was contrary to us; all the curses of the law. He became a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree; Galatians 3:13. Jesus removed the curse and nailed it to the cross, having disarmed principalities and powers. He made a public spectacle of them triumphing over them. In it He destroyed the power of the enemy by dying and through His death, He destroyed the power of death, and not only that but He freed all those who their whole lives were held in slavery by the fear of death. Hebrews 2:14-15
Jesus Christ descended to the lower earthly regions, He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. Ephesians 4:8-9 He ascended on high, He took many captives and gave gifts to His people. God was in Christ bringing into unity all things in heaven and on earth, Ephesians 1:10, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment. This means that everything under the sun has its time, including the devil; he knows his time is short. Revelations 12:12.
Christ at the cross was reconciling to Himself all things on earth or in heaven by making peace through His blood on the cross. For what reason? For a new humanity He was creating in Himself. Ephesians 2:15 A new creation in Christ Jesus. God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them and has committed to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore we are God’s ambassadors as though God were making His appeal for us. 2 Corinthians 5:20
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. And what is the new creation? It is Christ in you, the new self, created in God in true righteousness and holiness by the Holy Spirit who lives in you. Ephesians 4:23 and Colossians 1:23 His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. His kingdom with you and I as kings and priests to reign in Him.
