ELKINS — In an attempt to expand what it does on a day-to-day basis, the Randolph County Development Authority has created the position of deputy director for its organization.
“We are looking to expand our efforts in the recruitment and retention of business, and we are busy to a point where we are being spread too thin,” RCDA Executive Director Robbie Morris said. “So we have been talking to the board about adding some staff, so we created the deputy director position.”
The RCDA approved the hiring of Kris Wilmoth to the new position during its monthly meeting. Wilmoth has been the Development Authority’s administrative assistant for the past several years.
“Kris is going to do a phenomenal job and we are really excited about all the different things we have currently going and are planning to do here in the future,” Morris said.
“Having her expertise, work ethic, personality and knowledge of both the training side of what we do and the development side of what we do will be invaluable.”

Also during the monthly meeting, Morris gave the board an update of where the RCDA was in terms of hiring an architecture and engineering firm for the planned Railyard Project, which includes the construction of both an Events Center and Multi Tenant Commercial Building.
“We haven’t officially hired anybody, what we had to do is interview them and then rank them,” Morris said. “We have to start with the first name on the list and negotiate with them.
“If that works out well, we will vote to hire them. If the first name on the list doesn’t go well, then we go to the second and on down.”
The project is part of a strategic plan that was put in place last year but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In March the RCDA announced that it was moving forward with the plan.
