I am not a U.S. veteran, but I am the proud parent of two children who are. My wife and I were there when each of them respectively raised his and her right hand and swore an oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; ..."
Similarly, elected federal officials such as Senators Tammy Duckworth (Illinois) and Tom Cotton (Arkansas) and Representatives Adam Kinzinger (Illinois 16th District), Brian Mast (Florida 18th District) and Dan Crenshaw (Texas 2nd District) each made that same solemn vow in the course of their own noteworthy military careers before entering the political halls of Congress.
They all know full well from firsthand experience what it means to serve in our nation's armed forces whether or not the commander-in-chief at the time was someone for whom they had personally voted. I can't help but think that each one of them must be at least privately appalled by the course that the Biden-Harris administration is now taking to have the newly minted Secretary of Defense Austin give an order to our armed servicemen and women to stand down while he conducts an apparently partisan-motivated litmus test within the ranks in order to supposedly critically evaluate each individual's seeming fidelity and loyalty of allegiance to the USA.
This extraordinary exercise in finding our country's domestic "enemies" strongly smacks of 1950s-style Red Scare McCarthyism and the attempted rooting out of communism in America. It was not a good time then and it is not a becoming look now for President Biden and his party in power. I believe that they should all know much better than to sow these seeds of discord and destroy morale within our volunteer armed forces at this most critical time for our nation.
