"George Mikan's stature and his legacy make him the fitting namesake for a society to recognize those who make a "Big" impact on Blue Demon Athletics," said Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy. "Through hard work and the tutelage of legendary Ray Meyer, Mikan transformed himself into one of the greatest players in the history of basketball and vaulted DePaul University and Blue Demon basketball to national prominence, resulting in the 1945 NIT National Championship."
Set to launch on March 26, 2021, in honor of the 76th anniversary of DePaul's 1945 National Championship, The Mikan Society will recognize donors who are supporting DePaul's student-athletes with current and future commitments of $50,000 or more. As part of that membership in The Mikan Society, active members will receive special recognition, be invited to exclusive DePaul Athletics events and be provided the opportunity to develop relationships with DePaul's current student-athletes, coaches and administration.
"The goal of The Mikan Society is to maximize the return on investment for our most generous donors," Peevy said. "When these donors choose to support our student-athletes, I want to ensure that they know the level of gratitude they engender from DePaul athletics and fully understand the deep impact they have on the lives of our student-athletes today and in the future."
Membership levels within The Society will be structured from $50,000 to $1 million commitments. Donors will have the opportunity to make these commitments through pledges made over five years. Current donors at these levels will receive recognition for the life of their current commitments.
